One tin lasts 3–4 months
Made from Canadian tallow
Wild Clay is a tallow-based hair styling product made for short to medium-length hair. It uses just 8 real, simple ingredients to give you a natural, flexible, high-volume hold with no crunch, shine, or grease. It’s normally firm-but-scoopable straight from the tin. In colder months or after shipping, it can set up a bit firmer. If that happens, a few seconds of pressing and massaging the surface with your thumb softens it so you can scoop it out and work it between your fingers.
🍁 Made in Canada with Canadian grass-finished tallow.
Why this price?
Why this price?
Wild Clay is purposefully concentrated, made in small batches with grass-finished tallow and other high-quality ingredients (we link every supplier), then packed in a tin-plated steel container—tough, recyclable, and travel-friendly. Because it’s concentrated, you use less per style and get better control with a lighter feel.
How the math works (54 g tin):
Most people use ~0.4–0.7 g per style → ~135–77 styles per tin (about 2.5–4.5 months if you style daily).
Fewer grams, more performance.
If it’s not a fit, our 120-day, no-return refund applies.
Why is it firmer than other products?
Why is it firmer than other products?
Wild Clay is concentrated by design. That means more of what actually holds and texturizes—so you use less per style and your hair feels lighter, cleaner, and less product-y. It is normally firm but scoopable straight from the tin. In colder months or after shipping, it can set up a bit firmer. Pressing and massaging one spot with your thumb for a few seconds loosens the surface so it becomes scoopable, then it softens fully as you rub it between your hands. Usability stays easy when used as directed (i.e. small amount, damp hair). Result: control, natural finish, minimal build-up.

Beeswax
Gives your hair grip and hold—without the crunch or crust. Helps lock in shape while still feeling like, well… hair.
Grass-Finished Beef Tallow
Rich, dense, and time-tested. This stuff gives structure, weight, and a natural matte finish. Sourced from Canadian regenerative farms—not feedlots.
Bentonite Clay
Adds volume, texture, and a bit of grit in the best way. Helps cut down on grease and gives your style backbone.
Organic Unrefined Jojoba Oil
Keeps things smooth without going soft. Helps balance oil, tame dryness, and keep your scalp in check.
Organic Arrowroot Powder
Boosts fullness, absorbs just enough oil, and adds a clean, light finish—no shine, no mess.
Pure Lanolin Wax
Straight from sheep’s wool. Adds flexibility and staying power so you can restyle throughout the day.
Essential Oils: Cedarwood & Rosemary
Woodsy and sharp—clean without being sweet. Rosemary kicks up scalp circulation. Cedarwood keeps it grounded.
Tin-Plated Steel Container
No plastic or aluminum. Just a tough, travel-ready tin that holds up and looks sharp.
Heads-Up
It may soften in the heat or firm up in the cold. Store at room temperature if you can.

What's "short to medium length hair"?
Hair that's up to 4 inches (10 cm) long.
How much Wild Clay should I use?
A small amount, about the size of a 3/8-inch (1 cm) dab, should be good. Use about this much for this much hair:

The clay feels very firm or hard to scoop. Is that normal?
Wild Clay is naturally a firm, concentrated clay, so it will never feel like a soft cream. In most cases it is firm but still easy to scoop. In colder weather and after shipping, it can sometimes set up extra firm in the tin. That is normal for a natural tallow and clay formula.
To bring it back to its regular texture:
- Let the tin sit at room temperature.
- Press your thumb firmly into one spot on the surface a few times. You should feel it start to move under your thumb.
- Once the surface is moving, scoop a small amount and rub it thoroughly between your palms until it is smooth and almost invisible before applying.
If you still find it difficult to work with after that, reply to your order email or use the chat bubble and I’ll help you out personally.
I can't apply it evenly to my hair—what's going on?
Before applying Wild Clay, you need to rub it and fully spread it between your hands until it’s smooth and almost invisible. This should take only a few seconds. If it’s not spreading easily in your hands, you may be using too much product (see the next question).
How do I know if I'm using too much?
Check out this Instagram post for visuals.
You might be using too much if:
- It’s difficult to spread the product smoothly in your hands.
- Your hair looks grey after application.
- The hold is stiff and waxy instead of soft and flexible.
- It's hard to wash out of your hair with a gentle shampoo.
It looks like some product has been taken out of the tin I received. Is this normal?
Yes, that's normal. We’re in the process of upgrading our manufacturing process, but currently, each batch is made by hand by the two of us. We use stainless steel spoons to hand-pack each tin to a weight of 54 g (± 0.5 g). This process results in spoon marks and an indentation in the fresh clay.
What is the shelf life?
18-24 months if stored in a cool, dry place.

The ingredients and the performance are simply amazing. Lots of volume, good control and a very natural feel without any synthetics. Well done! One minor caveat: the firmness of the product in a fresh tin is intimidating. After checking the instructions, I realized I could make it soft in a couple of seconds, and then it stays soft, but it's a bit of a scary first impression. Totally worth it though. I hope this company comes out with more unconventional products. 4.9/5 - I'm absolutely getting more of this.
Alex, really appreciate this. Glad to hear the performance and feel are hitting the mark for you. Wild Clay is naturally on the firmer side because of the ingredients and the fact that we avoid fillers, although it can firm up even more during colder months and in transit. But like you found, it softens right away once you work it a bit. Thanks for giving it a proper try and for the encouragement. We have more products on the way.
If you're fed up with junk filled hair products, and need more out of your natural clay product than others can offer, this is the stuff for you.
This Clay is the best product I've used. It beats the big American brand and is in my opinion better than that glacial clay company. I have short/med length wavy hair, and this product is perfect for my styling needs.
The amount of fragrance is perfect, something nice so you don't smell like straight beef (it's tallow, what do you expect?), but you don't feel like you're wearing perfume. The hold is perfect, much better than that glacial clay product. It's not crunchy and it holds in the wind. A little does go a long way. I was initially surprised at how firm it was out of the tin, but that's how you know it will hold well in your hair.
10/10 - Will Reorder
JC, really appreciate this. Love hearing how well Wild Clay is working for you. The balance of hold, feel, and natural ingredients is exactly what we focus on, so it is great to know it fits your routine this well. Thanks for the support and for taking the time to write such a detailed review.
Out of the tallow clays that are out there right now, I've tried them all, and this one is my favourite. Best quality ingredients and transparency, best performance (volume, no shine, hold), best value for money (you need to use a fair bit less than others), but it's also the most specialized. What I mean is that if you follow the directions, then it will work easily and brilliantly, but if you deviate from that (e.g. try applying it to dry hair), it is unforgiving. I think this clay is like a highly-specialized, luxury tool that performs its specific task exceptionally well, whereas other clays are more of a multi-purpose tool that are more flexible in how they're used, but have less impressive performance. It fits with the brand's position of being "intentional" with choices, so I don't count it as a negative at all, but just something to be aware of.
Frank, this is such a thoughtful review — really appreciate it. You nailed it: Wild Clay was never meant to be one-size-fits-all. That mindset runs through everything we do. We’d rather make something excellent for some than mediocre for everyone. Glad it’s clicking with you.
This is by far the best hair styling product I have ever used. I’m 49 and have used product since I was 14. I’ve used them all; gels, pomades, clays,… All of them suck in comparison to Wild Clay. My hair is very think and heavy. This is the only product that has made my hair the way I want it. Essentially, I’ve been searching for Wild Clay my entire life. I could go on about how great this product is, but you get the point.
Wow, Ken — this means a lot. Hearing that Wild Clay stands out after decades of trying different products is incredible feedback. We put everything into getting that balance of performance and feel right, so it’s great to know it’s hitting the mark. Really appreciate you taking the time to share this.
I like going into trying a product with skepticism. After trying it, I ordered four more. I'll for sure continue using this product because of what it's made of and how well it works.
Thanks Andrew. Love hearing that Wild Clay won you over. Ordering four more is the best kind of feedback we could ask for. Appreciate the trust and support.
