Wild Clay is purposefully concentrated, made in small batches with grass-finished tallow and other high-quality ingredients (we link every supplier), then packed in a tin-plated steel container—tough, recyclable, and travel-friendly. Because it’s concentrated, you use less per style and get better control with a lighter feel.

How the math works (54 g tin):
Most people use ~0.4–0.7 g per style → ~135–77 styles per tin (about 2.5–4.5 months if you style daily).

Wild Clay is concentrated by design. That means more of what actually holds and texturizes—so you use less per style and your hair feels lighter, cleaner, and less product-y. It is normally firm but scoopable straight from the tin. In colder months or after shipping, it can set up a bit firmer. Pressing and massaging one spot with your thumb for a few seconds loosens the surface so it becomes scoopable, then it softens fully as you rub it between your hands. Usability stays easy when used as directed (i.e. small amount, damp hair). Result: control, natural finish, minimal build-up.

Beeswax
Gives your hair grip and hold—without the crunch or crust. Helps lock in shape while still feeling like, well… hair.

Grass-Finished Beef Tallow
Rich, dense, and time-tested. This stuff gives structure, weight, and a natural matte finish. Sourced from Canadian regenerative farms—not feedlots.

Bentonite Clay
Adds volume, texture, and a bit of grit in the best way. Helps cut down on grease and gives your style backbone.

Organic Unrefined Jojoba Oil
Keeps things smooth without going soft. Helps balance oil, tame dryness, and keep your scalp in check.

Organic Arrowroot Powder
Boosts fullness, absorbs just enough oil, and adds a clean, light finish—no shine, no mess.

Pure Lanolin Wax
Straight from sheep’s wool. Adds flexibility and staying power so you can restyle throughout the day.

Essential Oils: Cedarwood & Rosemary
Woodsy and sharp—clean without being sweet. Rosemary kicks up scalp circulation. Cedarwood keeps it grounded.

Tin-Plated Steel Container
No plastic or aluminum. Just a tough, travel-ready tin that holds up and looks sharp.

Heads-Up
It may soften in the heat or firm up in the cold. Store at room temperature if you can.

1. Scoop a *small* amount onto your finger. You can always add later.
   The clay may firm up in transit. If you can’t scoop it, press your thumb into it to get it back to its regular texture.
2. Rub the product between your palms until it's evenly spread, invisible and slightly warm.
3. For best results, apply to clean, towel-dry/damp hair and work it through from roots to ends.
4. Style as desired.

Where is Wild Clay made and where do the ingredients come from?

Wild Clay is made in Oakville, Ontario, Canada and Ponoka, Alberta, Canada. Here are links to our suppliers:

What's "short to medium length hair"?

Hair that's up to 4 inches (10 cm) long.

How much Wild Clay should I use?

A small amount, about the size of a 3/8-inch (1 cm) dab, should be good. Use about this much for this much hair:

The clay feels very firm or hard to scoop. Is that normal?

Wild Clay is naturally a firm, concentrated clay, so it will never feel like a soft cream. In most cases it is firm but still easy to scoop. In colder weather and after shipping, it can sometimes set up extra firm in the tin. That is normal for a natural tallow and clay formula.

To bring it back to its regular texture:

1. Let the tin sit at room temperature.
2. Press your thumb firmly into one spot on the surface a few times. You should feel it start to move under your thumb.
3. Once the surface is moving, scoop a small amount and rub it thoroughly between your palms until it is smooth and almost invisible before applying.

I can't apply it evenly to my hair—what's going on?

Before applying Wild Clay, you need to rub it and fully spread it between your hands until it’s smooth and almost invisible. This should take only a few seconds. If it’s not spreading easily in your hands, you may be using too much product (see the next question).

How do I know if I'm using too much?

You might be using too much if:

• It’s difficult to spread the product smoothly in your hands.
• Your hair looks grey after application.
• The hold is stiff and waxy instead of soft and flexible.
• It's hard to wash out of your hair with a gentle shampoo.

It looks like some product has been taken out of the tin I received. Is this normal?

Yes, that's normal. We’re in the process of upgrading our manufacturing process, but currently, each batch is made by hand by the two of us. We use stainless steel spoons to hand-pack each tin to a weight of 54 g (± 0.5 g). This process results in spoon marks and an indentation in the fresh clay.

What is the shelf life?

18-24 months if stored in a cool, dry place.
